Magazine marks 50 years of Crossroads Caring for Carers

The June edition of Yours Retro Magazine takes a look at how Noele and ATV helped establish the Crossroads Caring for Carers charity which began as a fictional scheme in the soap and then became a reality following viewer demand for such a venture. The charity, which assists carers across the UK, continues to run.

The feature marks the 50th anniversary since the first Caring for Carers scheme launched, a year after the fictional version was first seen in the teatime serial.

An ATV Network press release at the time of the storyline noted: “The idea is to show viewers that Handicapped people value their independence and also the devoted care given to them by their relatives.”
