BBC Radio 2 remembers Paul O’Grady with Crossroads special
BBC Sounds have uploaded three editions of The Paul O’Grady Show to celebrate the work of the comedian, actor and presenter who died on Tuesday (28th March) aged 67.
Paul was a massive fan of Crossroads and his knowledge of the programme extensive. He mentioned life in Kings Oak many times over his fourteen years with Radio 2 and in 2014 a special edition was broadcast to mark the show’s 50th anniversary.
Joining Paul for the special were Jane Rossington, Tony Adams and Susan Hanson, with Paul Henry guest spotting via telephone. This edition and two TV Themes specials are now streaming once more to remember Paul. All three programmes will also be reaired on BBC Radio 2 over Easter.
Boom Radio, which Paul was due to host an Easter Special on, will repeat his first and sadly last programme with the station on April 9th at 2pm.
It was announced in the early hours of Wednesday morning that Paul had died ‘unexpectedly but peacefully’ his husband Andre Portasio said in a statement.
Paul was, as well as his radio work, starring in the musical Annie, playing Miss Hannigan. A new series of For the Love of Dogs has been recorded and will air later this month on ITV1 and STV.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.
“I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.” – Andre Portasio
We were happy to assist Malcolm Prince, Paul’s radio producer, in a small way with the 50th-anniversary show and it was a huge honour to be mentioned by Paul a couple of times on Radio 2 over the years. Our condolences to Andre, Malcolm and all of Paul’s family and friends. ‘ta-ra for now’.
