Nolly nominated for two Broadcasting Press Guild Awards
The first nomination for Nolly – the story of Crossroads’ leading lady Noele Gordon – faces strong competition in the Best Single Drama or Mini-Series (1-3 episodes) category from Black Mirror: Demon 79 (Netflix), Partygate (Channel 4), Stonehouse (ITV), and series two of Time (BBC One) by Jimmy McGovern and Helen Black.
The second Broadcasting Press Guild Award nomination is for writer Russell T Davies who is listed for his penning of Nolly and also Doctor Who.
The story of Noele’s rise to fame and then fall from ATV has already picked up a couple of gongs last year, such as a BAFTA Wales award for the drama picking up the ‘Best Writer’ and Nolly took home four prizes from the RTS North West Awards; those for Best Drama, Script Writer, Performance in a Drama (for Helena Bonham Carter) and the Visual Post-production award, which went to Paul Ensby, a colourist at post-production house Picture Shop.
RTS North West Chair Cameron Roach said at the event in December: “It has been another incredible year for television production in the region and the nominees and winners this evening are a testament to the astounding talent we have in the North West.”
Nolly was filmed in Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Stockport and Bolton.
UPDATE: Mark Gatiss has also been nominated for a national RTS Television award as ‘best supporting male performer’ for his role as Larry Grayson in the drama.
