Classic Crossroads arrives on the ITV Hub.
It’s the first time ATV episodes have been seen on ITV.com in a decade. Formerly, in association with the fan club, the broadcaster’s website created a Crossroads hub within their now defunct ‘Best of ITV’ soaps section. It contained classic episodes, trivia, news, the programme’s history and a rundown of famous characters.
Now ten episodes have arrived
The content includes the ‘big wedding of 1975’ where Meg (Noele Gordon) says ‘I Do’ to Hugh (John Bentley), the 1977 Christmas storyline that saw Benny (Paul Henry) lose his wife-to-be when she dies in hospital following a car accident. There’s also the infamous motel fire of 1981 which saw Jill (Jane Rossington) utter those immortal words ‘Oh my God! The Motel! It’s on Fire – mum!”
There’s also the follow-up from the motel blaze which sees Meg alive and well in Southampton having not perished in the inferno. Instead, Meg says goodbye to Jill and departs on the QE2. And in happier times there are also several Christmas episodes with a happy festive feel – including 1979’s offering where Meg and friends including Diane (Susan Hanson), David (Ronald Allen), Barbara (Sue Lloyd) and Glenda (Lynette McMorrough) sing out with ‘We Need A Little Christmas’ from the musical Mame.
The service will be rebranded ITVX in December.
